Sheila offers Shiatsu treatments by referral in her home clinic or house calls.  She also teaches one introductory Saturday afternoon workshop in February for those who would like to understand more of the principles of Shiatsu.  Scroll down for more information about the workshop.

Shiatsu is a Japanese style of therapeutic massage. Shiatsu promotes natural healing through the comfort of touch and deep relaxation, following the energy balancing principles of acupuncture.

From the oriental perspective, aches and pains are caused by blocked energy in the body. If these blocks are not released, the pain can become chronic and lead to disease. Shiatsu eases blocked energy through gentle stretching and by activating the acupressure points and energy lines of the body.

For relaxation, prevention, rebalancing chronic conditions, and for the symptomatic relief of tension and pain, try Shiatsu!

A shiatsu session usually lasts one hour and includes consultation and feedback. A single Shiatsu massage is deeply relaxing and increases body consciousness. A series of weekly Shiatsu sessions increases the power of each massage for deeper work. For a chronic condition, a series of Shiatsu sessions is recommended.

The client wears stretchy or loose fitting clothes such as a t-shirt and sweatpants, and rests on a futon on the floor. No massage oil is used.

The Shiatsu Workshop date tba

The workshop will introduce the basic principles of the five element theory of Oriental Medicine, upon which Shiatsu (Japanese massage) is based. We will do some stretches (Makahos) for the meridians (energy lines) associated with the five elements, learn self-help techniques, then a partner massage sequence. Loose fitting or stretchy clothes are recommended as Shiatsu is practiced fully clothed. Come with a friend or on your own.
