Sheila Miller, M.Mus., is a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Shiatsu and CranioSacral Therapist, and singing and piano teacher. She has been practicing yoga since 1989 and teaching full time since 1998. Sheila completed her basic teacher training certification with the Kripalu Center in Massachussetts in 1998 and her 500 hour advanced teacher training there in 2004. In the summer of 2009 she spent 7 weeks training and travelling in India.  In 2004 she studied intensively with Angela Farmer and Victor van Kooten in Molivos, Greece and in 2002 completed an advanced teacher training with yoga teacher and author Donna Farhi. Sheila teaches yoga at Christ Church Deer Park near Yonge and St. Clair, The Granite Club, the RCYC, and private classes or groups in offices and students' homes.  From 1999-2012 she taught at Rosedale United Church and from 2000-2013 she taught at Extreme Fitness, formerly Oxygen Fitness, on the Danforth.

Sheila is thrilled to be back teaching after her 2021 accident and ensuing surgeries, appreciating even more the many gifts of yoga !

 

Sheila also practices and studies Mindfulness Meditation. She has completed ten week-long or longer meditation retreats and many more shorter retreats!  Sheila has been teaching meditation since 2002 when she took the week long Teaching Meditation Techniques course at the Kripalu Centre.  She has trained with master teachers at the Insight Meditation Society in the Massachusetts, Tara Mandala in Colorado, Tushita Centre in Dharamsala, India (where she also taught yoga), Gaia House in England, with Thich Nhat Hanh at Plum Village, his monastery in France, Wat Suan Mokh in Thailand, and the True North Insight and Northwoods Mindfulness Community in Canada. 

 

Sheila has been practicing Shiatsu (Japanese massage) and CranioSacral Therapy since 1994. She completed a two-year (over 1000 hour) Shiatsu training at Dragon and Phoenix School of Shiatsu in Montreal and also studied Shiatsu for Maternity Care with Suzanne Yates, who is based in the U.K.  She studied CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute.  She is a Licensed Holistic Practitioner.

 

In 1994 Sheila completed a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at Universite de Montreal.  In 1991 she completed a B.Music degree in Vocal Performance at McGill University.  In 1987 she completed a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Italian at U. of T.  Sheila's singing teacher at McGill recommended yoga to improve her breathing for singing opera!
